Changes
The online Support Tools Manager (STM) was enhanced and updated
for the current release.
Changes to User
Interface and Platform
- JAGae28128
Currently, there is no mechanism to report the information about an
IA64 system, namely, Model, Product#, System Sr. No, System f/w
rev, etc., in the EMS events. The field has made it a requirement
for this information to be available in 11.22 release. All this
infomation will be provided by the new System Info Tool. Note, that
the CHART defect talks about CPU info tool. Since the info that the
tool provides relates more to the system than CPUs, we've named it
System Info Tool.
- JAGae14110
Full fix for the problem described in JAGae14110. Monitoring
requests made in the EMS GUI for the EMS HW Monitoring status
monitor, psmmon, resources are removed during an update. This has
been fixed, so that those monitoring requests are retained.
- JAGae27183
Support was added for installing class licenses on 11.22 systems.
- JAGae20830
This fixes a problem where "garbage data" is returned by the
info/dlpi information tool, when PAgp port aggregation software is
installed on a system.
- JAGae25369
The id module has been modified to identify the Virtual Array
products VA7100 & VA7400.
- JAGae20710
Added recognition of Mt Diablo to STM platform.
- Added support for Tachyon TL/TS Adapter "HP6795A_Tachyon_XL2".
- Added support for 1 Port 2 Gig Fibre Channel Adapter, A6795A,
for 11.22.
- Added support for the following: _NECDV-5700B, _NECDV-5700A
- Modified diaglogd to handle MCA data. Diaglogd will log mca
data to /var/tombstones.
- Updated the EMS introductory message that is mailed to root on
installation.
- Added support for the following CD-ROMs: TEACDV-28E-A,
TEACDV-28E-b, TEACDW-28E, LITE-ONLTR-24102B, HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM
GDR8161B.
- Updated dialogd to handle the processing of MCA data.
- Updated diagmond to keep track of OLA/R capable pci slots to
determine which associated hardware paths may be suspended in order
to update the monitor hardware paths list so suspended paths can be
ignored by EMS monitors.
- Added support for Fibre Channel Disk Enclosure HPA6255A. Added
support for SCSI Disk Enclosure HPA6491A. Added support for IA64
memory driver ipf_memory using id module pa_module. Changed
diagmond to create uut_status memory icon product from MEMORY to
IPF_MEMORY.
- The data structures that will made up the memory error log file
will be changing on the IA-64 systems only; hence, a new routine,
gs_access_ia64_mem_error_log(), will be created to access the new
memlog header type on IA-64 systems.
- Added support for licensing IA64 HP servers rx5670, rx5630,
rx2600, and IA64 workstations zx6000, and zx2000.
- Added support for the Configuration Code in the tlmem_ia64
Library on IA64 systems (Long's Peak, Wilson Peak and Everest).
- Added support for the Decode Module code on IA64 systems
(Long's Peak, Wilson Peak and Everest).
- An error message is no longer logged if a driver name does not
exist for a given io tree token.
- Added support for pdh driver "Core I/O Adapter."
- The following drivers are obsolete for 11.22 and no longer
supported: fddi, fddi0, fddi3, token2, token1, btlan0, btlan1,
lan2, lan3, eisaxb, nioxb, syscio, mux2, mux4, lanmux0, lantty0
- JAGad71506
Increased the maximum number of devices that a system can have and
still use the graphical xstm map.
- Fixed bug which caused xstm to crash if a invalid value was
discovered in the libdiagux routine that obtains information from
X-Windows.
- JAGad97675
Added a security governer into a libdiaggs.sl library function that
creates new stm directories. This function was modified so it may
now either refuse to allow the new directory to be created or it
may alter the access modes for the new directories being created.
If the new path is /var/stm/ or any path under this, then the user
must be root to create the directory. Otherwise the directory will
not be created and an error message will be logged. All directories
under /var/stm/ shall be created with rwxr-xr-x permissions, with
the exception of /var/stm/logs and /var/stm/catalog which shall
both be created with rwxrwxrwxt permissions. All other directories
may be created by anyone, but will be created to be writable by the
creator only.
- Added Crestone, Challenger Point and Longs Peak workstation
model strings and new box_ids for Crestone and Challenger Point.
- Added diablo define to tllibio include and model strings for
everest and longs peak to code. Added place holders to code for
wilsons peak and diablo.
Modified STM mapping to add MEMORY icon for everything except
AzusA systems.
- Enhanced local port configuration functionality of STM to make
ALL ports used for IPC communication between elements of the STM
system LOCAL only.
In order to enable this functionality, both STM and the EMS HW
Monitors MUST be shutdown. Then, the file
/var/stm/config/sys/local_only needs to be created. Then STM and
the EMS HW Monitors should be restarted, in that order.
In order to disable this functionality, both STM and the EMS
HW Monitors MUST be shutdown. Then, the file
/var/stm/config/sys/local_only needs to be removed. Then STM and
the EMS HW Monitors should be restarted, in that order.
If both STM and EMS HW Monitors are not shutdown and this file
is created, IPC messages will timeout and fail. This means tools
will not be able to be started from the UI, monitors will not be
able to send events to PSM, so the state of devices will not be
updated, set_fixed will not be able to display or update the
state of devices.
If this functionality is enabled, the STM product will no
longer accept connections from remote systems. On new systems,
the error message indicated below will be displayed. On older
systems, the older message indicating diagmond may be down will
be displayed. In addition, the STM product will not allow
connections TO remote systems. In this case, the message below
will be displayed:
MODIFIED for UI.
This message will appear if the system is configured for
LOCAL_ONLY and the user attempts to connect to a remote system.
An unexpected error was encountered while attempting to
retrieve the host info for hostname (XX). This could be due to
either of the following conditions:
- The support tool daemon "diagmond" may not be running on
that system. Use the STM Startup command (in the administration
menu under the file menu.)
- The support tool daemon "diagmond" on that system may be
configured to only allow local connections. Check the value of
the configuration parameter LOCAL_ONLY_ENABLE in the
/var/stm/config/sys/diagmond.cf g file or for the existence of
the /var/stm/config/sys/local_only file on that system.
- The diagnostic system on this system may be configured to
only allow local connections. Check for the existence of the
/var/stm/config/sys/local_only file on this system.
- The IP address for the system may be invalid or may not be
associated with a valid host. Use a valid IP address.
- Networking may be incorrectly configured on one of the
systems involved. Verify networking by comparing 'nslookup
`hostname`' with the output of ifconfig of the LANs identified
by lanscan.
More details may be available in the System Activity Log and
in the syslog on that system. It may be necessary to access these
using the Local Unit Under Test (UUT) logs (in the administration
menu under the file menu.)
OLD (will be displayed when attempt connect from remote to
local_only)
An unexpected error was encountered while attempting to
retrieve the host info for hostname (XX). This could be due to
either of the following conditions:
- The support tool daemon "diagmond" may not be running on
that system. Use the STM Startup command (in the administration
menu under the file menu.)
- The support tool daemon "diagmond" on that system may be
configured to only allow local connections. Check the value of
the configuration parameter LOCAL_ONLY_ENABLE in the
/var/stm/config/sys/diagmond.cfg file on that system.
NEW for tlpthread (memlogd) and pllib for send message.
An attempt to send an IPC message to a non-local port has been
rejected. The port is on system name (XX) at IP address (XX) and has
system port (XX).
Possible Causes/Recommended Action:
Diagnostic system is configured to only perform local IPC.
To enable remote communication:
Shutdown the the EMS HW Monitors and the diagnostics system
Run /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig and select K)ill
Run STM and select the SystemShutdown command
Remove the /var/stm/config/sys/local_only file
Restart the diagnostic system and the EMS HW Monitors
Run STM and select the SystemStartUp command
Run /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig and select E)nable
Internal Application error.
- If the /var/stm/data files are actually on a different system
from the one where the diagmond daemon is running, there are race
conditions where tools appear to run indefinitely, meaning they
never go into a completed state (SUCCESSFUL, INCOMPLETE, etc). The
tools have actually completed but the UI doesn't update the map. If
the user exits the UI and re-enters, the tools show a completed
state. If the user changes the timestamp on the
/var/stm/data/uut_status file on the remote system, the UI will
update the map and the tools will go into the completed state.
Removed logging of the following message by diagmond into the
system activity log. It is not actually an error. In some cases,
after a system reboot and until the first start of an STM UI,
diagmond would repeatedly log this error into the system activity
log and fill up the file system.
Wed Oct 10 14:50:10 2001: Cannot update system map file
(/var/stm/data/uut_status) for new
information as
there is no in memory copy of the
new information.
Possible Causes/Recommended Action:
Internal Application error.
- Added exerciser and information tool support for memory.
- JAGad93348
Added "cancel" text to the cstm dialog for super list widgets. In
this way, the users know that the cancel command can get them out
of several cstm dialogs that use this widget.
- JAGad70969
The hardware path, which is customer visible, has been
included.

Known
Problems
Problem: Memory Page Deallocation (MPD) is not available on
the RX 4610.
Symptoms: The Memory Page Deallocation (MPD), which runs on most
current HP-UX computer systems, does not work on the RX 4610
computer. If you look in the activity log for memlogd, you will see a
message saying, "unsupported device."
Cause/Action: MPD cannot be implemented on RX 4610, because of the
design of that system. The memlogd daemon cannot run on it.
Problem: Online help may not work for xstm
diagnostics.
Symptoms: In xstm (the graphical interface for online
diagnostics), no online help appears when you enter a command for
online help. The diagnostics themselves are still functional.
Cause/Action: Online help for xstm requires that the Netscape
browser be installed on the computer. The xstm interface invokes the
Netscape browser to display .htm files located in the diagnostics
sub-directories on disk. (The mstm and cstm interfaces do not use the
Netscape browser.)
The easiest way to install the Netscape browser is from the AR
(Application Release) Media supplied with the computer.
Alternative: Using any computer, you can view online help for
xstm, mstm, and cstm on the Internet at:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/diag/stm/sth_summ.htm
Defect
Reporting
Use CHART to report defects in STM. The project name is
diag.stm.tools.hpux for individual tools, and diag.stm.ui.hpux for
the user interface. If you don't have access to CHART, contact an HP
representative to enter a defect for you.
Online Help
Online help has changed for HP-UX 11i V1.6. On previous operating
systems, STM used the HP-Help system to display help information.
With HP-UX 11i V1.6, help information is provided via Web pages.
The xstm platform will open a browser on the workstation and
display help from files on the local disk. The same files are also
available over the Web.
The mstm and cstm platform will display ASCII text for several
help topics. For complete online help, consult the Web pages at the
URLs located below:
Complete online help for xstm, mstm and cstm is available on the
