This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11i v3 (September 2009) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).

Note: On the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system, Online Diagnostics does not support tape drives. Although some of the Support Tools Manager (STM) tools may work with tape drives, they are not supported. The diagnostic tools and utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L and TT). These tools are available at:

Overview

The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system, enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.

STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.

Prerequisites

Following are the prerequisites for installing Diagnostics and Support Tools:

EMS version A.04.20.31 or later

ProviderSvcsBase C.02.00.xx (September 2009)

Notes:

The requirements are available on the Operating Environment (OE) media.
ProviderSvcsBase: The ProviderSvcsBase product offers interface for user space processes (typically, but not limited to, WBEM Indication Providers) to retrieve error logs from HP-UX Kernel. Using these error logs WBEM Indication Providers generate WBEM indications, when an event of interest occurs on the system.

Defect Fixes

This section describes the defect fixes and changes made to STM for the current release.

Some of the fpl_em monitor events missing in the eventdef file.

STM uses wrong driver for tape products on HP-UX 11i v3 system.

System Management Homepage reports wrong warning messages on a disk as being degraded.

Info log fails to run on a suspended card. The problem occurred since there was no corresponding entry in the catalog file for
STM_PCI_PATH_SUSPENDED.

Known Problems and Workarounds

Symptom: OnlineDiag does not work properly when the length of the system name exceeds 8 characters.

Problem: When the length of the hostname for a system name exceeds 8 characters, OnlineDiag cannot retrieve the hostname. So, OnlineDiag cannot function as expected.

Workaround: Change the default values of the expanded_node_host_names and uname_eoverflow kernel parameters by completing the following steps:

kctune expanded_node_host_names=1
kctune uname_eoverflow=0
/sbin/init.d/diagnostic stop
/sbin/init.d/diagnostic start

Obsolescence

NOTE: Starting with HP-UX 11i v3 March 2009 release, OnlineDiag (including STM) will be in support mode. Moving forward, no new enhancements will be made to OnlineDiag (including STM). Only Critical / Serious defects will be analyzed.
