This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11.31 (March 2008) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).

Note: On the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system, Online Diagnostics does not support tape drives. Although some of the Support Tools Manager (STM) tools may work with tape drives, they are not supported. The diagnostic tools and utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L and TT). These tools are available at:

Overview

The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system, enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.

STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.

Defect Fixes

This section describes the defect fixes and changes made to STM for the current release.

The following information applies to both Itanium Processor Family (IPF) and PA-RISC systems:

• QXCR1000593992
  Systems with more than 64 processors display the status of the CPU exerciser tool as HUNG, before changing the status to SUCCESSFUL. This issue is now fixed.
• QXCR1000592551
  Online Diagnostics supports the BL870c systems.
• QXCR1000742542
  The /var/stm/data/sensor_sdr_data file has incorrect permissions. This issue is now fixed.
• QXCR1000741320
  The System Information Tool generates the following report for all fields on an rx7640, which has one cell installed:
  Hardware path: system
  Product ID : N/A
  Current Product Number : N/A
  Original Product Number : N/A
  System Firmware Revision : N/A
  BMC Revision : N/A
  System Serial Number: : N/A
  System Software ID : N/A
  ...
  This issue is now fixed. The System Information Tool now runs successfully on a single cell based rx7640 server.
• QXCR1000746823
  The product ID string displayed by STM for a SAS adapter is now shortened. The product ID string includes the product qualifier used for distinguishing the SAS adapters.

  STM supports the following IO cards:
  • 448262-B21 - 448262-B21 PCIe Mezz 2 port 4X DDR Fabric.
  • AH304A - AH304A HP PCIe 2 port 4X DDR Fabric.
  • AD221A - HP PCIe 1p 1000BT Adapter.
  • AD222A - HP PCIe 2p 1000BT Adapter.
  • AD393A - HP PCIe 2p 1000SX Adapter.
  • AD386 - PCIe Smart 10GbE Fiber Adapter.
• QXCR1000592253
  The psmctd process has a memory leak. As a result, the CPU usage of the system is high. This issue is now fixed.

  The msamon monitor logs the following message multiple times in the /var/opt/resmon/log/api.log file, if either MSA1000, or MSA1000 and MSA1500 devices are connected to the system:

  As a result, other important information in the /var/opt/resmon/log/api.log file is overwritten. This issue is now fixed.The msamon monitor is modified to prevent the monitor from logging this information in the api.log file.

  STM supports the AD386 - PCIe Smart 10GbE Fiber Adapter IO card.
• QXCR1000746266
  The message file for the dm_iscsi monitor for both 11.31 IA and PA view is updated with new set of information.
• QXCR1000593766
  On a non-cellular IPMI-based system, the Get Sensor Reading system call fails and displays the following message:
  Request Data field Length Limit - (0xC8)
  As a result, the ia64_corehw monitor does not generate events during system boot. This issue is now fixed.
• Online Diagnostics supports hot-pluggable disks. When a disk is either replaced or attached to a pre-existing hardware setup using the SCSI or FC interface, Online Diagnostics remaps the entire hardware inventory within 30 minutes. During this process, each hardware monitor, which is associated with the disk, obtains a path. The new disk is added to the list of disks that are monitored.

  STM supports AH303A and core PCI-X SAS controllers.

  New messages are added to the 11iv3 mass storage stack.

Use CHAnge Request Tracker (CHART) to report defects in STM. The project name is diag.stm.tools.hpux for individual tools, and diag.stm.ui.hpux for the user interface. If you do not have access to CHART, contact an HP representative to enter a defect for you.
