The Copy Utility Tool allows you to back up data from a SCSI disk device, and at a later time, to restore the data from the backup medium to the desired disk. The tool offers the following functions: "Backup", "Restore", "Verify" and "Option".
CAUTION: The Copy Utility Tool contains commands which can destroy data. For example, the "BackupDisk" and "RestoreDisk" commands will overwrite pre-existing data on the target device.
Save (SAV) - Save the tool's main window
Print (PRN) - Print the tool's main window
Exit (EX) - Exit the tool and return to the STM prompt
BackupDisk (BD) - Back up data from a SCSI disk to a SCSI backup device
RestoreDisk (RD) - Restore data from a SCSI backup medium to a SCSI disk
VerifyDisk (VD) - Validate the data in the backup or restore copy
SetOption (SO) - Specify option (maximum number of errrors)
Help (HE) - Display online help for the tool
Version (VERS) - Display version and copyright information for the tool
Control-C - Interrupt the tool.
The Copy Utility Tool supports SCSI hard disks, DDS and 8mm tape drives. Within this category, the Copy Utility supports only those devices that are supported by Hewlett Packard Company. If the device is not an HP-supported device, the Copy Utility tool displays a warning message, but allows user to proceed at their own risk if he chooses so.
If the backup device is a disk, its size must be equal to or greater than the size of the disk being backed up. In other words, for a disk-to-disk copy, the size of the destination disk must be be equal to or greater than the size of the source disk.
If the backup device is a tape drive, this tool supports backup on multiple tapes. When the copy reaches the end of the current tape, this tool prompts you to insert the next tape and continue.
This tool reports any error(s) detected during the course of its execution. It terminates its task as soon as the number of errors detected exceeds the allowable number of errors. Tool progress and detailed information about the errors are logged in the Copy Utility Activity Log.
If you experience problems, consult the Troubleshooting help topic.
To run the Copy Utility Tool on a device:

To restore data from a SCSI backup device to a SCSI disk:
To verify data by comparing data on a SCSI disk with the copy on a SCSI backup device.
Consult the tool's Activity Log, accessible from the "cstm" prompt.
Make sure the device is connected, powered on, and on-line.
If the selected disk is a system (root) disk, some of the Copy Utility Tool functions can cause the computer system to become slow to respond.
You can stop the executing function by pressing the Control-C keys any time during the execution of the function. A prompt will ask you to select one from the list on the display. To stop the execution of the selected tool function and return to the "Copy Utility>" prompt, enter "Interrupt". To stop the tool entirely and return to the "cstm" prompt, enter "Abort".
The Copy Utility Tool requires a license to operate. Install the license and try to run the tool again.
The Copy Utility Tool offers the following commands:
Save (SAV)
Use the "Save" or "SAV" command to save the contents of the Tool's main window. (Only the most recent 200 lines can be saved.)
Print (PRN)
Use the "Print" or "PRN" command to print the contents of the Tool's main window. (Only the most recent 200 lines can be printed.)
Exit (EX)
Use the "Exit" or "EX" command to leave the Copy Utility Tool and return to the "cstm>" prompt.
BackupDisk (BD)
The "BackupDisk" or "BD" command allows you to back up data from a SCSI disk to a SCSI backup device.
You may use the "SetOption" command to specify the maximum number of errors allowed before the task terminates. This allowable error count applies only to read errors from the source device. If the tool detects any error when writing to the backup device, it reports the error and terminates the operation regardless of the maximum allowable error count.
If the backup device is a disk, its size must be equal to or greater than the size of the disk being backed up. In other words, for a disk-to-disk copy, the size of the destination disk must be be equal to or greater than the size of the source disk.
RestoreDisk (RD)
The "RestoreDisk" or "RD" command allows you to restore data from a SCSI backup medium to a SCSI disk.
The maximum number of errors allowed set by the "SetOption" command has no impact on the restore operation. If the tool detects any read or write error, it reports it and terminates the operation regardless of the maximum allowable error count.
VerifyDisk (VD)
The "VerifyDisk" or "VD" command allows you to validate the data in the backup or restore copy.
You may use the "Set Option" command to specify the maximum number of errors allowed before the task terminates. This allowable error count applies to read errors from both the source and target devices. When the number of the errors detected exceeds the maximum allowable one set by the "SetOption" command, the tool terminates the verify task.
SetOption (SO)
The "SetOption" or "SO" command allows the user to specify the maximum number of errors before the tool terminates the ongoing task. This maximum allowable error count affects only the "BackupDisk" and "VerifyDisk" commands.
The counter of errors is re-set every time a new task is initiated. For example, after you start a "VerifyDisk" operation, if the number of errors detected exceeds the maximum allowable value, the tool terminates this task and returns to the "Copy Utility>" prompt. On the next task (perhaps a "BackupDisk"), if the number of errors detected during the backup operation is greater than the maximum allowable value, the tool terminates the backup operation and returns to the "Copy Utility>" prompt.
Help (HE)
The "Help" or "HE" command displays online help for the Copy Utility Tool (the help system you are currently viewing).
For online help on STM as a whole, use the Help command at the "cstm>" prompt.
Version (VERS)
The "Version" or "VERS" command displays version and copyright information for the Copy Utility Tool.
Control-C
Pressing the "Control-C" keys allows you to interrupt the tool. When "Control-C" is detected, a list of choices will be displayed on the screen. The list includes "Abort", "Interrupt", "Escape" and "Continue".
Both "Abort" and "Escape" will cause the display of the "cstm>" prompt. "Abort" will cause the tool to be aborted. When the tool actually exits, the state of the tool execution in the system map is set to ABORTED.
"Escape" will not terminate the execution of the tool. It allows the user to disconnect from the currently executing tool and return to the "cstm>" prompt. To reconnect to the tool, use the Attach command in the "cstm>" prompt.
"Continue" causes the tool to continue with what it was doing at the time of Control-C.
"Interrupt" sends an interrupt to the tool. When the tool receives the interrupt, it stops whatever it is doing and prompts you if you want to continue with the operation. If the reply is "Continue", the tool resumes what it was doing at the time of the interrupt. If the reply is "Abort", it terminates the operation and returns to the "Copy Utility>" prompt.
The tool may not immediately receive the interrupt as it could be in the middle of an operation that should not or could not be interrupted. The interrupt is received as soon as the tool completes the operation.
The tool will receive and ignore the interrupt command when it is already in the process of returning to the "Copy Utility>" prompt.
All three operations, "Backup", "Restore" and "Verify", can be terminated in the middle of the operation using Control-C. Interrupt and subsequent termination do not negatively affect the source device in those operations and the target device of the "Verify" operation. However, if the operation is "Backup" or "Restore", the data on the target device will not be usable after the interrupt and subsequent termination, because the operation was stopped at the middle and only partial data were copied over.
