The VSE Management
Software relies on WBEM providers and other agent software installed
on the managed systems. These products can be installed on managed
systems from the CMS using either the Configure VSE Agents menu action or the Configure or Repair Agents menu action. | | | | | IMPORTANT: If you are upgrading an existing version of the
gWLM agent, you must upgrade the gWLM agent on all systems in an SRD
at the same time. You cannot run different versions of the gWLM agent
within a single SRD. | | | | |
Configure Secure Shell (OpenSSH)
In order to install software from the CMS to
managed systems, OpenSSH must be installed on the managed systems
and configured for use by HP SIM. Use Procedure 3-9 to configure OpenSSH for HP SIM. This step
can also be done manually using the mxagentconfig command. Refer to mxagentconfig(1M) for more information. | | | | | NOTE: Preinstallation steps are required for Linux and Microsoft® Windows® managed systems. For details,
refer to the following sections:
Procedure 3-9 Configure OpenSSH for HP Systems Insight Manager Select
the systems to configure, and choose Configure Configure or Repair Agents... from the HP SIM menu bar. Step through the wizard until the Configure
or Repair Settings step is displayed. Select Configure secure shell (SSH) access. Refer to the HP SIM
online help for this screen for additional details. Enter credentials for a privileged
account that is available on each of the selected managed systems.
For detailed information about configuring SSH
for use with HP SIM, refer to the HP white paper Secure
Shell (SSH) in HP SIM 5.0, available from the Information
Library link at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim. Install Default Set of VSE Agents for Any Type of System
The agent distributor provides a single checkbox
that can be selected in the Configure or Repair Agents task to install the default set of VSE agents. The default set of
agents is the same as those selected by default on the Install
VSE Agents pages. Managed systems running all operating
systems that VSE supports can be selected at the same time for installation,
as long as they all have a common set of privileged credentials. Procedure 3-10 Install Multiple Types of Managed System Software from the
CMS Prerequisite OpenSSH must be installed on the managed systems
and configured for use by HP SIM. Select the systems to configure,
and choose Configure Configure
or Repair Agents… from the HP SIM
menu bar. The Install Providers
and Agents step is displayed. Select Install VSE
Management Agents and click Next to
continue. There are no configuration
options required for the VSE management agents on the Configure
or Repair Setting step. Either take the defaults or modify
them, then continue. Enter credentials for a privileged
account that is available on each of the selected managed systems. Click Run Now to launch the installation. Progress and results of the
VSE Agents install task are displayed on the HP SIM Task
Results page. Review the install task output for errors
before continuing. Run the HP SIM discovery process
again. Choose Options Identify Systems sand click Run Now.
Install HP-UX VSE Agents
Follow the steps in Procedure 3-11 to install
the VSE agents and providers to HP-UX managed systems from the CMS.
This procedure allows you to select the individual agent software
that you want to install. If you prefer to install the agent software
manually, see “Alternate Procedure for Manual Installation of Agent Software”. | | | | | IMPORTANT: When you upgrade an existing version of the gWLM
agent, processes placed in a PSET or FSS group by gwlmplace are moved to
the default PSET or default FSS group. You can avoid this behavior
by placing applications in workloads when you define the workloads.
See gwlmplace(1M) for additional information.
Procedure 3-11 Install HP-UX Managed System Software from the CMS Prerequisite OpenSSH must be installed on the managed systems
and configured for use by HP SIM. Refer to “Configure Secure Shell (OpenSSH)” for details. Select your HP-UX managed systems and
choose Configure Configure
VSE Agents Install HP-UX VSE Agents... from the HP SIM menu bar. Click Run Now to start the installation. A table of available HP-UX agent software
is displayed, with default selections already applied. You can accept the defaults
or modify the selections. Not all products need to be installed on
all systems. For example, it is not necessary to install the Virtual
Machines Provider except on VM Host servers and virtual machines.
However, there is no harm in installing the agents and providers on
managed systems that do not require them. To select or deselect all
software choices, click the check box in the table header. To select
or deselect a specific component, click the check box next to that
component. | | | | | IMPORTANT: Some of the products available for selection require the managed
system to be rebooted after installation. This is indicated in the Requires Reboot? column. If you select a product that
requires a reboot, the managed system will automatically be rebooted
when the software installation completes. The default selections do
not include any software that requires a reboot.
When you have selected the software that you want to
install, click OK. The selected software will
be installed on each of the managed systems that were previously selected.
HP SIM displays the progress and results of the installation in the
Task Results screen. Review the output for error messages before continuing. If any of the selected software requires a reboot
after installation, the managed system is rebooted automatically. Select
the systems that you want to manage with gWLM, and choose Configure Configure VSE Agents Start gWLM Agent... from the
HP SIM menu bar to start the gWLM agent on the selected systems. Run
the HP SIM discovery process again. This will allow HP SIM to retrieve
additional information about the systems where agent software has
been installed. Choose Options Identify Systems... from the
HP SIM menu bar, then click Run Now.
Install Linux VSE Agents
Follow the steps in Procedure 3-12 to install
the VSE agents and providers to Linux managed systems from the CMS.
This procedure allows you to select the individual agent software
that you want to install. If you prefer to install the agent software
manually, see “Alternate Procedure for Manual Installation of Agent Software”. Procedure 3-12 Install Linux Managed System Software from the CMS Prerequisite OpenSSH must be installed on the managed systems
and configured for use by HP SIM. Refer to “Configure Secure Shell (OpenSSH)” for details. Select your Linux managed systems and
choose Configure Configure
VSE Agents Install Linux VSE Agents... from the HP SIM menu bar. Click Run Now to start the installation. A table of available Linux agent software
is displayed, with default selections already applied. You can accept the defaults
or modify the selections. To select or deselect all software choices,
click the check box in the table header. To select or deselect a specific
component, click the check box next to that component. When you have selected the
software that you want to install, click OK. The selected software will be installed on each of the managed
systems that were previously selected. HP SIM displays the progress
and results of the installation in the Task Results screen. Review
the output for error messages before continuing. Run
the HP SIM discovery process again. This will allow HP SIM to retrieve
additional information about the systems where agent software has
been installed. Choose Options Identify Systems... from the
HP SIM menu bar, then click Run Now.
Downloading Updated Agents and Providers
For information about downloading updated managed
system software packages, see the HP VSE Managed Node Software Update
website at http://vsemgmt.external.hp.com. Alternate Procedure for Manual Installation of Agent Software
If you do not want to use the procedures described
above, you can selectively install the agents required for managed
systems from the depots and installation packages that are installed
in the depot directory on the CMS with the VSE
Management Software. On an HP-UX CMS, this directory is /var/opt/vse/depot. On a Windows CMS the directory is install-path\depot, where install-path is the directory where the VSE Management
Software is installed (by default, this directory is C:\Program
Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment). Use the following
procedures to manually install the agent software. Procedure 3-14 Manual Installation of HP-UX Agents Copy the desired depot files
(file.depot) from
the depot directory on the CMS to /var/tmp on the managed system. Or, if you are using a Software Distributor
depot server, copy the depot files to the depot server. Install the desired depots
using the swinstall command, as shown in the following
example. If you are using a Software Distributor depot server, replace
the source part of the command with the server location of the depot. Example 3-1 Install the Utilization Provider on an HP-UX System # /usr/sbin/swinstall -s /var/tmp/up.depot UtilProvider
|
Enter the corresponding swinstall command for each of the depots that you want to install.
Procedure 3-15 Manual Installation of Linux Agents Copy the desired tar files
(file.tar) from the depot directory on the CMS to /var/tmp on the managed system. Copy the agent installation
script install-agent.sh from the CMS to /var/tmp on the managed system. On an HP-UX CMS, this
script is located in /opt/vse/lbin. On a Windows
CMS it is in install-path\lbin, where install-path is the directory
where the VSE Management Software is installed (by default, this directory
is C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment). Install the agent software
using the install-agent.sh script, as shown in
the following example. Example 3-2 Install the Utilization Provider on a Linux System # cd /var/tmp
# sh install-agent.sh hp-utilprovider.tar
|
Repeat the previous step for
each of the agents that you want to install.
