HP Virtual Machine Management Pack (VMM) is used to view and manage virtual machines running on HP ProLiant systems. For information about managing virtual machines running under HP Integrity Virtual Machines, see “HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager”.

VMM provides tracking, monitoring, and control functions for virtual machines running under VMware ESX, Microsoft Virtual Server, or Microsoft Hyper-V. You must have administrative rights to perform Virtual Machine Management Pack tasks. VMM configuration is accessed through the HP SIM menu selections Configure->Virtual Machine Host Registration and Configure->Virtual Machine Management. VMM tasks can be performed from the Options->Virtual Machine Management menu and from the virtual machine System Page.

TIP: The time to complete a virtual machine operation that involves file transfers takes longer when Network Attached Storage (NAS) volumes are used, because VMM shares a network connection with NAS. Set up separate networks for VMM and NAS.

The following VMM tasks appear on the HP SIM host or guest System Page:

  • Start/resume

  • Shutdown/stop

  • Pause

  • Reset/restart

In addition, the following tasks can be initiated from the HP SIM toolbar:

  • Starting or resuming virtual machine guests
