License Manager allows you to view the available and applied licenses for all products in the HP SIM License Manager database. You can use License Manager to add new licenses to the database and apply licenses to managed systems. To use HP SIM License Manager, you must have administrative rights on the CMS.

To start License Manager, select Deploy->License Manager... from the HP SIM menu (see Figure 3-1). This menu selection will only be available if you have administrative rights on the CMS.

Use Procedure 3-1 to see a list of all of the systems that are currently licensed for a product:

Procedure 3-1 View Systems Licensed For a Product

  1. Select the product from the displayed list.

  2. Click Licensed System(s).... The list of currently licensed systems is displayed (see Figure 3-3).

NOTE: If you selected “VSE Management Sofware for Integrity”, the Licensed Systems display includes the 90-day trial license for all managed HP Integrity or HP 9000 servers. This license is displayed as a single line, with the text “**Trial_For_ALL_Integrity/9000**” appearing in place of the system name.
  3. Click any product in the “Product License Information” table at the top of the screen to dismiss the list of currently licensed systems.

Use Procedure 3-2 to add new licenses to the License Manager database.

Procedure 3-2 Add Licenses to the License Manager Database

  1. Click Add Licenses.... The “Add License Key” controls are displayed (see Figure 3-4).

    Add License Key additional controls
  2. Enter the new license key string and click Process... to display the license details, including the product name, license version, type, and purchase date, and the maximum number of days the license can be used.

  3. Click Add Licenses Now to add the new licenses to the database. If the licenses are added successfully, they are listed in the “Product License Information” section. An error message appears if the key is invalid, and that license information is not added to the database.

After adding a new license key, the number of available licenses for that product includes the newly added licenses.

  4. Click any product in the “Product License Information” table at the top of the screen to dismiss the “Add Licenses” controls.

Use Procedure 3-3 to apply a license to one or more managed systems.

Procedure 3-3 Apply a License To Managed Systems

  1. Select the product from the displayed list.

  2. Click Manage Licenses.... The “Manage Licenses” display shows the status of the available licenses, including how many are already assigned, how many are used, and how many are still available (see Figure 3-5).

IMPORTANT: Licenses for HP Insight Dynamics — VSE are locked to a managed system when they are assigned. In this case, the button Apply License(s)... is displayed. When this type of license is applied to a system, it is listed in the Licenses Used column. Once locked to a system, the license cannot be moved to another system.

Licenses for the VSE Management Software products for Integrity can be assigned and unassigned multiple times. In this case, the buttons Assign License(s)... and Un-Assign License(s)... are displayed instead of Apply License(s).... VSE Management Software licenses for Integrity can still be unassigned and reassigned, even though they are listed in the Licenses Used column, except for the HP Insight Capacity Advisor Consolidation Software license.

When a license for HP Insight Capacity Advisor Consolidation Software is assigned to a system, it is listed in the Licenses Assigned column. As soon as the license is actually used on the assigned system, it moves to the Licenses Used column. Once a license for HP Insight Capacity Advisor Consolidation Software is used, it becomes locked to that system, and it can no longer be unassigned.

  3. Click Apply License(s)... or Assign License(s)... (see Important note above). The “Select Target Systems” screen is displayed. Select individual systems either by searching for them by name or by picking them from a collection. For additional help on the target selection screen, click [?] on this screen.

  4. To apply the license to the systems that you selected, click Apply. The “Verify Target Systems” screen is displayed. If any of the systems that you selected do not meet the conditions required by this license, the Tool launch OK? field will contain “No” and a link labeled “View details”. Click the link to see the reasons that the selected system is ineligible for this license.

  5. Add or remove systems using the Add Targets... and Remove Targets... buttons. To proceed with applying licenses to the selected systems, click Next. For additional help on selecting systems, click [?] on any of the target selection and verify screens.

  6. If you are assigning licenses for VSE Management Software products, the final step is performed in the “Deploy VSE Management Software for Integrity Licenses” screen. This screen is described in Deploy VSE for Integrity.

If you are applying licenses for HP Insight Dynamics — VSE, the final step is performed in the “Deploy HP Insight Dynamics” screen. This screen is described in Deploy Insight Dynamics.
