HP Virtualization Manager and Logical Server Management Version 4.1 Getting Started Guide > Chapter 1 IntroductionStarting Virtualization Manager |
|
This section describes the various ways you can start the Virtualization Manger from HP SIM, and how to switch views to display different system collections once in the Virtualzation Manager. When you start the Virtualization Manager from any of the methods in this section, a splash screen displays as the Virtualization Manager loads. You can start Virtualization Manager from HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) in any of the following ways: From the HP SIM menu bar:From the HP SIM menu bar, choose Tools
The first time you start Virtualization Manager, the Visualization View appears with the default Physical and Virtual perspective. This perspective shows all physical and virtual nodes in graphical compartments. For more information on the Visualization View and optional perspectives, see “Using the Visualization View”. When you start the Virtualization Manager subsequent times,
the software checks to see if you had previously set a default view
by modifying the user preferences from Configure From the HP SIM Systems and Event Collections list in the left-hand navigation area:Choose Systems Expand the All VSE Resources collection by clicking its Create a custom HP SIM collection whose default view is set to VSE:Select this collection to start Virtualization Manager. See “Customizing HP SIM Collections” for information on creating alternate (custom) collections. That section also describes how to customize HP SIM to display Virtualization Manager automatically as soon as HP SIM starts. The Virtualization Manager starts with the Visualization View displayed (that is, the Visualization tab is selected). By default, the Visualization View shows the VSE resources on the systems within the currently-selected collection that are properly licensed and that you are authorized to view, along with real-time utilization metrics. You can also switch to the Workload View by clicking the Workload tab, access the Global Workload Manager (gWLM) to view and manage SRDs by clicking the Shared Resource Domain tab, or access the Capacity Advisor by clicking the Capacity Advisor tab. For information on these tabs, see “Virtualization Manager Tabs”. From the Visualization View, you can also switch to other perspectives of your VSE environment by using the convenient Perspective: drop down menu (shown in Figure 1-3). The Perspective drop-down menu determines the specific nodes to display, in the same manner as choosing a collection from the left-hand HP SIM pane. For example, the Virtual Machine perspective shows the virtual machines and virtual machine hosts that are in that collection. The Physical and Virtual perspective shows systems, such as nPartitions contained within a complex. You can view information in the any of following contexts:
A perspective is available even if there are no such corresponding systems configured and discovered. In that case, Virtualization Manager will display a page saying there is no information to display in that particular view. The Logical Servers perspective is available only on a Windows CMS. For other conditions, see the note in “Purpose of the Visualization View”. Table 1-9 describes each perspective in the Perspective drop down menu. Table 1-9 Visualization View Perspectives
