The Virtualization Manager provides several features
that let you visualize and manage VSE. Using the Virtualization Manager,
you can: Customize the level of detail that you want to see Easily access additional VSE Management Software applications
to manage and configure systems and workloads Centrally configure your server resources for optimum
utilization
For an overview of VSE and the VSE Management
Software applications, see the HP Insight Dynamics —
VSE and HP VSE Management Software 4.1 Getting Started Guide. Virtualization Manager Tabs | |
The Virtualization Manager provides four tabs
to move between the main views in Virtualization Manager, Capacity
Advisor, and Global Workload Manager: Visualization tab – Displays the Virtualization Manager Visualization View
that lets you visualize all controlling technologies in your Virtual
Server Environment and easily navigate to the management application
for each technology. For more information, see “Using the Visualization View”. Workload tab –
Displays the Virtualization Manager Workload View that lets you view
all of the servers and workloads in your Virtual Server Environment,
using a compact table format. See “Using the Workload View”. Shared Resource Domain tab – Lets you view and manage Shared Resource Domains (SRDs)
using Global Workload Manager (gWLM). gWLM allows you to centrally
define resource-sharing policies that you can use across multiple
HP servers. For information about gWLM, see the HP Global
Workload Manager Version 4.1 User's Guide. Capacity Advisor tab – Lets you view utilization data and perform scenario analysis
using Capacity Advisor. For information about Capacity Advisor,
see the HP Capacity Advisor Version 4.1 User's Guide.
Virtualization Manager Menus | |
The VSE Management menu bar provides convenient
access to the VSE Management tools and actions. To perform an action on a system or compartment,
select its check box, then choose the menu selection from the menu
bar. Some menu selections (such as Create Workload Definition...) do
not require you to select a system first. The following menu options
are available for the Virtualization Manager tabs under the VSE Management
menu bar (see Figure 1-1 “VSE Management Menu Bar”): Table 1–1 through Table 1–6
describe the drop down menu options for each menu bar selection. Some
menu options are only available on a Windows Central Management Server

Virtualization Manager Toolbar | |
The Virtualization Manager toolbar provides an
easy way to adjust the display of compartment information. Figure 1-2 shows
the Virtualization Manager toolbar options: | 1 | The drop-down menu allows you
to select different ways of visualizing your enterprise. The default
view is the physical and virtual server view. You can select alternate
views for server blades, logical servers, Serviceguard clusters, Virtual
Machines, or to show systems and events. | | 2 | Select the Show Workloads check
box or click the Show Workloads button to the left of the check box
to display sub-OS workloads running on a given system. Click either
toolbar element to clear the workloads from the display. By default,
this control is turned off. Virtualization Manager initially filters
out workload information from the compartment. | | 3 | The toolbar expand and collapse
let you manipulate the amount of information displayed in the Visualization
View. Expand and Collapse Buttons describes the function of each button.Table 1-8 Expand and Collapse Buttons on the Virtualization Manager Toolbar | Button Icon | Name/Hover
Text | Function |
|---|
![[++]](./img/expand-all.png) | Expand All button – Expand all hierarchy | Expands all compartment hierarchies, showing full
details for all top-level compartments and subcompartments. | ![[--]](./img/collapse-all.png) | Collapse All button – Collapse all hierarchy | Collapses all compartment hierarchies, showing only
the top-level compartment’s name and type. | ![[+]](./img/expand.png) | Toolbar Expand button – Expand next level | Expands the next level compartment in the hierarchy,
one level at a time. Clicking the Toolbar Expand button is similar to clicking the Expand Compartment button in every
compartment that has collapsed subcompartments. Any compartment or subcompartment that you selected
by clicking the selection box in the upper left corner will remain
selected.
| ![[-]](./img/collapse.png) | Toolbar Collapse button – Collapse lowest level | Collapses the lowest level compartment in the hierarchy,
one level at a time. Clicking the Toolbar Collapse button is similar to clicking the Collapse Compartment button in every compartment that
has expanded subcompartments. If a compartment has subcompartments, they continue
to display in their previous state when you re-expand after using
the Toolbar Collapse button. For example, if subcompartments in their
expanded state show full details, they will continue to show full
details. Any compartment or subcompartment that you selected
by clicking the selection box in the upper left corner will remain
selected.
|
| | 4 | The Search field allows you to
locate a given system by searching for a compartment name. When you
enter the name in the search field, Virtualization Manager first highlights
all complete or partial matches of the name, after a slight delay.
When you click the Search button or press Enter, Virtualization Manager moves the scroll bar to
the first compartment name it matches. For example, searching for
the system citrine moves the scroll bar so the
compartment for that system is at the top: If you are searching for part of the name, Virtualization
Manager highlights any compartment name that contains those characters
and subsequent clicks of the Search button moves the scroll bar to
the next matched name. The search feature is case-insensitive. If
the search text does not yield a match, the background of the Search field displays red. | | 5 | The Refresh button allows you to update the display to include the
latest compartments, their relationships, and utilization information.
Normally, refreshing the display is not necessary because the view
is updated automatically as new data becomes available. However, you
might use the Refresh button to reattempt gathering utilization data
for all items to ensure the view is showing the latest information.
Refreshing the view updates all containers and relationships, resource
utilization data, authentication credentials (WBEM) from HP SIM, and
workload information from gWLM. While the view refreshes, the Refresh
button spins to indicate it is in progress. | | 6 | Status errors or warnings when
receiving data are indicated here. Click the alert button to view detailed information about the error or warning. |
