Version 3.5 of the HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager adds several new features and capabilities:

  • Compatibility with HP Integrity Virtual Machines version 3.5 (A.03.50).

  • Support for creating HP-UX 11i v3 and Linux virtual machines, using the Create Virtual Machine wizard. For more information, see the VM Manager help.

  • Support of Accelerated Virtual Input/Output (AVIO) network and storage devices. AVIO storage devices can be added to a new virtual machine by using the Create Virtual Machine wizard. To add devices to an existing virtual machine, select Modify->Add Storage Device to Virtual Machine... and Modify->Add Network Device to Virtual Machine.... For more information about the Create Virtual Machine wizard and Modify menu, see the VM Manager help and the HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager Version 3.5 Getting Started Guide. For more information about AVIO, see the HP Integrity Virtual Machines Installation, Configuration, and Administration manual.

  • Support for viewing VM Host and virtual machine event logs maintained by the Integrity Virtual Machines product on the VM Host. View->Integrity VM log for VM Host allows you to display the events pertaining to the VM Host and guests. The display is the result of running hpvmstatus -e on the VM Host. The display includes a summary of Integrity VM commands executed on the VM Host plus other information.

View->Integrity VM log for VM allows you to display the events pertaining to the selected virtual machines. The display is the result of running hpvmstatus -e -P vm-name on the VM Host. To use this option, one or more virtual machines must be selected on the current screen.

For more information, see the VM Manager help and the HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager Version 3.5 Getting Started Guide.

NOTE: When using VM Manager from HP SMH, use of either of these new menu options to view Integrity VM event logs requires that you be logged into HP SMH with either Operator or Administrator privileges. If you are logged in with User privileges only, an attempt to use either menu option to view Integrity VM event logs results in an error message indicating that the hpvmstatus command cannot be run. For more information about HP SMH privileges, see the HP SMH documentation, available from the following website (click the Support and Documents link):

When using VM Manager from HP SIM and VSE Management Software, use of either of these menu options is not restricted; any user authorized to use VM Manager can view the Integrity VM event logs using these menu options.

  • Deleting a virtual machine using VM Manager from HP SIM and VSE Management Software now results in the virtual machine also being deleted from HP SIM. In addition, when creating a virtual machine using VM Manager, VM Manager now initiates re-identification of the VM Host by HP SIM so that the new virtual machine is recognized and added to HP SIM.

NOTE: The HP SIM identification process may take a minute or two to complete. If you return to Virtualization Manager immediately after creating a virtual machine, the virtual machine might not yet be included in the Virtualization Manager view but appears automatically when identification completes. For information about a similar disjunction between VM manager actions and the Virtualization Manager view, see “A Virtual Machine Deleted Soon After Being Created Might Appear in Virtualization Manager”.
