Overview of Graphs and Reports
HP Integrity Essentials Capacity Advisor can generate both graphical
and tabular reports on resource utilization. The reports are
produced as HTML Web pages. The following tasks are described: Generating a quick resource utilization report on
a system, workload, or complex (see Accessing a Profile Viewer). Generating a report on a scenario, or a collection
of systems, workloads and complexes (see Generating a Report).
Accessing a Profile Viewer
The profile viewer provides a quick summary of historical resource
utilization. The profile viewer presents a graphical representation
as well as a tabular summary. Prerequisites. To access the Profile
Viewer: Procedure 4-8 To Access the Profile Viewer If you want to view the profile
of a resource in a scenario, you need to be editing the
scenario (see Editing a Scenario). The Capacity Advisor - Edit Scenario screen will be displayed in a new window. If you want to view the profile
of a system: Click the System tab. The System tab will open. Click any of the horizontal bar-graphs
representing current utilization of a resource. The Capacity Advisor - Profile Viewer screen will be displayed. The type of bar-graph selected
(shown by the heading of the column containing the graph)
will determine the default resource displayed.
If you want to view the profile
of a workload: Click the Workload tab. The Workload tab will open. If bar-graphs are displayed: Click any of the horizontal bar-graphs
representing current utilization of a resource. The Capacity Advisor - Profile Viewer screen will be displayed. The type of bar-graph
selected (shown by the heading of the column containing
the graph) will determine the default resource displayed.
If no bar-graphs are displayed: Click the check box preceding the
workload for which you want to see a profile. The check box will be filled with a check mark and the
line containing the workload will be highlighted to indicate
selection. Select View Workload Profile... from the menu-bar. The Capacity Advisor - Profile Viewer screen will be displayed.
This step and all subsequent ones
are performed on the Capacity
Advisor - Profile Viewer screen. If you want more current data for the profile, click the
Collect Capacity Advisor Data... button. The Capacity Advisor - Profile Viewer screen will gray out and the busy indicator will be displayed.
When the screen returns to normal and the busy indicator
disappears, the graph and tabular summary will be include
the newly collected data. | | | | | NOTE: This capability is not available while you are editing a
scenario. | | | | |
If you want to change the interval
displayed, use the fields following Interval to change the duration and ending date. The graph and tabular summary will be updated to display the
new interval. If you want to view the profile
information associated with another resource, click the
appropriate radio-button beside Utilization Metric. The graph and Interval Metric Summary table will be replaced with content reporting the new
metric. In certain situations (such as
when you are viewing the profile for a system or complex),
navigational controls are presented beside the Hierarchy label near the top of the screen,
such as links and drop-down lists that allow you to view
parents and siblings of the current resource profile. Clicking
the links or selecting an item from the drop-down list will
allow you to view that profile. For details, access the
help by clicking the ? button. When you are finished reviewing
the profile information, click the Close button. You will be returned to the screen from which the profile viewer
was requested.
Generating a Report | |
Capacity Advisor Utilization Reports provide valuable summaries
of resource utilization. These reports are useful for summarizing
current resource utilization or planning for future requirements.
Reports can be based on scenarios, complexes, systems, or workloads. | | | | | IMPORTANT: There is a fundamental difference between reports based on
scenarios and those generated by directly specifying systems,
complexes, and workloads. All metrics reported from scenario
based reports are based on summing the data on the workloads.
For reports based on direct specification of systems, complexes,
and workloads, the metrics reported on systems are actual
system utilization values, and may differ from the sum of
the workloads. | | | | |
Prerequisites. To generate a report: You must be logged in to HP Systems Insight Manager
(see Accessing Capacity Advisor). You must have already
collected data on the systems of interest (see Collecting Data). You must be authorized and licensed on all systems
you wish to include in the report (see VSE Management
Software Quick Start Guide Version A.03.00.00 ).
Procedure 4-9 To Generate a Report This is the selection step. If
you want to base your selection on something other than
a scenario, see “Alternative Selection Methods”. If you are not on the Capacity Advisor tab: If the Capacity Advisor tab is visible, click the Capacity Advisor tab. If the Capacity Advisor tab is not visible, select Optimize Capacity Advisor View Scenarios... from the upper, HP SIM menu bar.
The Capacity Advisor tab
will open, with a list of scenarios. Click the radio button (circle)
preceding the scenario about which you wish to generate
a report. The row containing the scenario will be highlighted and the
radio button will be filled in to indicate selection.
Select Reports Capacity Advisor Report... from the lower
menu-bar. The Capacity Advisor - Create Utilization
Reports wizard will be started. | | | | | NOTE: If you are not licensed on any system required for the report,
an error will be reported at this time and you will
not be able to generate the report.
Confirm that the components you
selected are listed at the top of the screen, under the Select Report Targets label.
If not, click the appropriate link to edit the selection
(“Edit Scenario Selection...”, “Edit Complex
Selection...”, “Edit System Selection...”, or “Edit Workload Selection...”) to
the right of the listings to modify the selection.. If necessary, adjust the Date Selection controls. Click the appropriate check boxes
beside the desired components under Select Report Content. Click the Next button. The Select Report Details screen of the Capacity Advisor
- Create Utilization Reports wizard will be
displayed. Select the appropriate Report Options. Click the Finish button. The Capacity Advisor Report Created screen will be displayed. To browse the report: Click the “Browse Report” link. The Capacity Advisor Utilization Report screen will be presented in a new browser window. Close the window when you have
finished browsing the report.
To save a report, click the “Save Report” link. The browser's dialogs for downloading a file will be displayed.
Follow your browser's process to download the zip file
containing the utilization report. Click the Close button. You will be returned to the screen from which you generated
the report.
Alternative Selection Methods | | | | | NOTE: These procedures substitute for the selection step of the “Generating a Report” procedure. The prerequisites
for that procedure are assumed to be met.
Procedure 4-10 To Select Systems and Complexes If you are not on the System tab of the VSE Management: Virtualization Manager
screen: If the System tab is visible, click on it. If the System tab is not visible, select Tools VSE Management... from
the upper, HP SIM menu-bar.
The System tab will open,
with a listing the systems. Click in the check boxes preceding
the systems of interest. If any of the bar-graphs say “No Data”, you will need to collect data before
including the system or complex in a report (see Collecting Data). | | | | | NOTE: Capacity advisor does not support complexes that have mixed
processors. | | | | |
Check marks will appear in the check boxes and the systems will
be highlighted.
Procedure 4-11 To Select Workloads Procedure 4-12 To Select Systems or Workloads From a Scenario If you are not editing a scenario,
follow the procedure found in Editing a Scenario. Click the System or Workload tab. The appropriate tab will open, listing the available systems
or workloads.
