HP Integrity Essentials Capacity Advisor works best with a lot of data to generate
reports and create scenarios. It is best to collect data on a regular
schedule; you can also trigger an up-to-date data collection for reports
and profile generation. Collected data is kept on a managed system for 30
days and on the CMS for two years. | | | | | IMPORTANT: The data collection process is purposely designed to consume little
resource on the systems from which data is being collected. This means
you can feel free to collect data whenever you want. However, the data
collection process can take a relatively long time to run to completion
when collecting data from a large number of systems.
| | | | | NOTE: You can import OVPA data into the historical database; see
“Importing OVPA Data” in
HP Integrity Essentials Capacity Advisor User's Guide (Part Number
T2784-90005) and the capovpaextract(1m) manpage for additional information. Some of the menu items described below are repeated on other menus.
Where an item is repeated on multiple menus, any of the duplicate menu
items can be used to accomplish the result.
Once you have gathered data using the process described below, you may
want to see reports or graphs based on the collected data (see Overview of Graphs and Reports) or build models based on the data to help plan future
systems by creating scenarios (see Overview of Working with Scenarios). First Data Collection
Prerequisites. To gather data for the first time:
Procedure 4-2 To Gather Data the First Time Select Optimize Capacity Advisor Collect Capacity Advisor Data ALL... from the upper, HP SIM menu-bar. This will start the wizard for collecting data from all systems

displayed. Select Periodically from the list labeled
When would you like this task to run?. In the area labeled Refine Schedule: set
the top line to 1 day(s) at 12:01 AM using the
interval and time fields. (Use a different time if this is a busy
time for your systems.) Under the list labeled In addition: click
the check box labeled Run now. Click the Done button. The Task
Results screen will be displayed. Once the
Status field shows

the Stdout and Stderr
tabs. The messages on the Stdout tab include
indications of any errors that occur (see “Error Notification on the Standard Out Tab”, below, for an explanation
of the messages). Be sure to check both tabs for a complete
understanding of what happened.

Updating Collected Data
At times, such as when you are generating reports and developing or
refining scenarios, it is desirable to trigger data collection so that
your work is based on the most up-to-date data. Some possible cases are:
Updating Collected Data on All SystemsPrerequisites. To update collected data on all systems:
Procedure 4-5 To Update Collected Data on All Systems Select Optimize Capacity Advisor Collect Capacity Advisor Data ALL... from the upper, HP SIM menu-bar. This will start the wizard for collecting data from all
