The following information is for the 10GigEthr-00 (ixgbe) gigabit Ethernet Driver for HP-UX 11i v2 of December 2005. The ixgbe driver supports the AB287A 10 Gigabit Ethernet card. You can check to see if this driver is present on your system by running the commands described in ““How to Verify that the Correct Driver is in the Kernel”” in this document.

The HP-UX 11i v2 release of December 2005 provides the following new ixgbe 10 gigabit Ethernet Driver feature:

  • Supports new method of enabling multiqueues using destination port-based steering. When this feature is enabled, the driver automatically configures the optimal number of queues. The new method is enabled by default unless a previous version of 10 Gigabit Ethernet exists on the system. You can enable/disable this feature or change the number of queues using lanadmin commands and edit the configuration file (/etc/rc.config.d/hpixgbeconf) to preserve values across reboots. The existing VLAN based multiqueue is still supported and works the same way as before. The two different methods of enabling multiqueue can coexist.

Config file parameter: A new parameter HP_IXGBE_DPS has been added to the driver config file for this feature. Setting this field to ON enables this feature and setting it to OFF disables this feature when the driver startup script runs. The default is ON (unless a previous version of 10GigE exists on the system).
To temporarily enable this feature: lanadmin -X drv_dp_on ppa

The driver programs a table in the card to look at the destination port of received packets and direct them to the appropriate queues. The driver updates the table dynamically as operating conditions change. If there is no entry corresponding to a port number in the table, the card directs the packets to its default queue, which is Queue 0.

This feature supports only TCP packets. Other packets such as UDP or direct ICMP will always use the default queue (Queue 0).

This feature provides good performance improvements when there is a mix of applications because all packets are not sent to the same destination port.

For further information on the benefits on multiqueing, please refer to the section in this document called “Benefits of Multi-Queue”.

NOTE: As of the date of publication of this document, the 10 GigE multiqueue using destination port based steering may not work optimally when used with Auto Port Aggregation (APA) in LAN Monitor mode.
  • Supports TCP-reassembly in the driver.

Config file parameter: A new parameter HP_IXGBE_SW_LRO has been added to the driver configuration file (/etc/rc.config.d/hpixgbeconf) for this feature. Setting this field to ON enables this feature and setting it to OFF disables this feature when the driver startup script runs. The default is OFF.

To temporarily enable this feature: lanadmin -X sw_lro_on ppa
