There are three separate Gigabit drivers described in this document: igelan, iether, and gelan. Check the Card, Driver, Version matrix on http://docs.hp.com under “Networking and Communications,” or ask your marketing representative for the most up-to-date list of network cards and the systems that they work on.

  • The B.11.23.01 version of the igelan Gigabit Ethernet driver (product bundle GigEther-01) supports the following HP Gigabit Ethernet interfaces:

    • A6825A -- PCI 1000Base-T card and A6847A 1000Base-SX cards for rx5670, rx2600, and certain SuperDome servers and zx6000 workstations.

    • A8685A -- PCI 1000Base-T card for zx2000 and zx6000 workstations.

    • A6794A -- PCI 1000Base-T/SCSI card for rx5670 servers.

    • PCI 1000Base-T core (built-in) LAN on rx2600 servers and zx6000 workstations.

  • The B.11.23.01 version of the iether Gigabit Ethernet driver (product bundle IEther-00) supports the following HP Gigabit Ethernet interfaces:

    • PCI 1000Base-T core (built-in) LAN on zx2000 workstations.

    • PCI 1000Base-T built-in LAN on HP Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) i870 machines.

  • The B.11.23.01 version of the gelan Gigabit Ethernet driver (product bundle GigEther-00) supports the following HP Gigabit Ethernet interfaces:

    • A4929A -- PCI 1000Base-T card (gigabit over copper) for use on certain SuperDome models.

    • A4926A -- PCI 1000Base-SX card (gigabit over fiber) for use on certain SuperDome models.

Features

  • The maximum transmission unit (MTU) range is increased so you can now choose any number from 1024 through 9000. The jumbo frame size is now any value from 1501 through 9000 inclusive.

  • 1000Base-T operates at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbit/s and supports autonegotiation and autosensing.

  • The Gigabit Ethernet LAN software supports TCP/IP, NFS, and DLPI applications. Ethernet and SNAP encapsulations are supported.

    Supports HP MC/ServiceGuard.

  • Supports online addition/replacement (OLA/R).

The Installation Guide and other gigabit documentation will no longer be placed in the /opt/networkdocs directory on your system.
