Use the Network Interfaces Configuration tool of SMH to create a failover group. To invoke SMH, follow the instructions in “Administrative Methods”. See the same section for alternatives to using SMH.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Click Create Failover Group on the APA main page to open the Create Failover Group page as shown in Figure 3-12.

  2. Select a Link Aggregate Instance, or accept the default. If you select a different value, the display refreshes.

  3. Select a Failover Policy, if you do not want to accept the default. If you select a different value, the display refreshes.

  4. Select the ports to include in the failover group.

NOTE: Before adding ports to a failover group, you must check link connectivity between the ports.
  5. Enter a Priority, if you are creating a failover group with a priority-based failover policy.

  6. Enter a Cost, if you are creating failover group with a cost-based failover policy.

  7. Click Advanced Parameters to display additional failover group parameters.

Enter the failover group parameters you want.

  8. Select the Configuration Options you want.

  9. Click OK to create a failover group and set the attributes. An Operation Successful page appears, confirming the creation of the failover group and the updating of the APA configuration.

  10. Click OK. The APA main page displays, showing the newly created failover group.

By default, SMH changes the current APA configuration and saves the information and APA configuration to the /etc/rc.config.d/hp_apaconf, /etc/rc.config.d/hp_apaportconf, and /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii files, which maintains the Create Failover Group changes across reboots.

After you configure the failover group, configure an IP address to enable it. See “Configuring an IP Address” for more information.
