You initialize the Volume Manager by using the vxinstall program. The vxinstall program places specified disks under Volume Manager control. By default, these disks are placed in the rootdg disk group. You must use the vxinstall program to initialize at least one disk into rootdg. Quick installation gives you the option of initializing all disks. If you wish to initialize only some of the disks for VxVM, use the custom installation process. Custom installation allows you to control which disks are added to Volume Manager control and how they are added. You can initialize all disks on a controller or only the disks you plan on using. For details on how to use the Quick or Custom installation option, see the VERITAS Volume Manager 3.1 for HP-UX Release Notes. |
