This chapter describes the VERITAS Volume Manager GUI, the Storage Administrator and its relationship with the LVM GUI, and the System Administration Manager (SAM). This chapter also describes how to launch the Storage Administrator from SAM.

The following topics are discussed in this chapter:

SAM and Storage Administrator coexist as independent entities. The Storage Administrator recognizes and labels LVM volumes and disks, but does not manage them. Similarly, SAM recognizes and labels VxVM disks, but does not manage them. To manage VxVM disks graphically, you must use the VxVM Storage Administrator.

For information about the Storage Administrator, see the VERITAS Volume Manager 3.1 Storage Administrator Administrator's Guide.

You can launch the Storage Administrator in one of two ways:

  • from SAM

  • from the command line, with $VMSAHOME/bin/vmsa

NOTE: It is recommended that you launch Storage Administrator from SAM rather than from the command line. If you run Storage Administrator from the command line, you must explicitly refresh SAM (with Options->Refresh) to see VxVM changes reflected in SAM screens.

Only privileged users can run the Storage Administrator.
