This chapter describes the main service and console interfaces for configuring, monitoring, and for booting HP Superdome servers.

The Guardian Service Processor (GSP) utility hardware provides a method of connecting to the Superdome complex to perform service or monitoring tasks.

The GSP provides console connections for each partition in a Superdome complex, gives you access to system logs, access to a "Virtual Front Panel" for each partition, and access to a command menu for performing various complex-wide tasks. The GSP also provides a point for viewing live and logged chassis codes.

Note that the Service Management Station (discussed in Chapter 1) is not covered in this Chapter. See Chapter 1 “Overview of the Superdome System Environment” for details.

For details on using the GSP interface for managing Partitions, see Chapter 4 “Configuring and Managing Superdome Partitions”. Also see Chapter 5 “Booting and Resetting Superdome Partitions” for more information on booting and rebooting using the GSP and console features that are introduced here.
