When you submit a job to a logical printer, any of the logical printer's associated physical printers that support all of the job and document attributes may print the job. When the printer finishes printing your job, HPDPS can send you a notification message and display the name of the physical printer on which your job was printed.

You may be able to determine the location of that physical printer by querying its printer-locations attribute. For example, suppose you submitted a job and received notification that it completed on physical printer PhysPrt1. You can use the following command to attempt to display the location of the printer device associated with that physical printer:

pdls -c printer -r "printer-locations" PhysPrt1

If your administrator has kept the optional printer-locations attribute up-to-date, the text string will accurately tell you where the printer device is located. For example, HPDPS might display a text string describing the location of the printer device:

PhysPrt1: printer-locations = Building 21
