HP Distributed Print Service User's Guide: HP 9000 Computers > Chapter 2 Basic Printing Tasks Submitting Jobs to an HPDPS Printer |
|
When you or your print administrator have configured one or more HPDPS logical printers, you can submit jobs to them:
To submit a job, you can use the pdpr command. If a default logical printer has been set in your PDPRINTER environment variable and you want to use it, enter the pdpr command without specifying a logical printer. For example, to submit the file File1 to your default logical printer, enter:
To send a job to a specific logical printer use -p PrinterName with the pdpr command. Requesting a specific logical printer can be useful if your distributed print environment has many available logical printers or has defined logical printers based on the types of print jobs that the logical printers accept. Examples of logical printers defined by types of jobs could include those that only accept large jobs, those that are specifically for PostScript jobs, or those that only support single-sided jobs. To submit the file, File1, to the logical printer LogPrt2, enter:
Contact your administrator for the names of the logical printers specific to your installation, or use the pdls command to list the names of your configured logical printers. If you submit a job to a logical printer that has no associated physical printers capable of handling your job, HPDPS rejects the job and you receive an error message. |
