You can start using SFM without performing any specific tasks
or special configuration. However, to take advantage of advance capabilities,
which SFM provides, HP recommends few one-time, post migration activities.
Upgrading to the Latest Version of SFM and WBEM Providers
To use the new features and enhancement made to SFM and WBEM
providers, and to obtain defect fixes, you must download and install
the latest version of the product bundle for products mentioned in “Obtaining SFM and WBEM Providers”.
Configuring E-mail Consumer
By default, SFM is configured to send WBEM indications to Event
Archive on the local system. To receive an e-mail notification on
specific WBEM indications, you must configure the e-mail consumer.
For instructions on configuring e-mail consumers, see the System Fault Management Administrator's Guide:
Testing the SFMIndicationProvider
The SFMIndicationProvider operates independent of the EMS framework.
Since SFM is the default monitoring mode, the SFMIndicationProvider
is configured to generate WBEM indications. However, you can send
a test event to verify whether the SFMIndicationProvider is working
properly. You can also send test events for devices that the SFMIndicationProvider
monitors. For more information, see the System Fault Management
Administrator's Guide:
Configuring WBEM Subscriptions on HP SIM
By default WBEM indications are stored on the local system in
the Event Archive. You can use EVWEB, which is integrated with HP
SMH, for viewing WBEM indications. Alternatively, you can view the
WBEM indications using Event Viewer on HP SIM. To view WBEM indications
using Event Viewer on HP SIM, you must configure the WBEM subscriptions
on HP SIM. For instructions on subscribing to WBEM indications on
HP SIM, see the System Fault Management Administrator's
Guide:
