You can rename remote files using the RENAME command as follows:

ftp> RENAME remotefile newfile

To rename a file in other than the working directory on a UNIX-type system, include the directory name with the newfile parameter as you normally would on the UNIX system as follows:

ftp> RENAME remotefile directoryname/newfile
CAUTION: If the new file name you specify already exists on the remote system, the remote system may overwrite the existing file without warning.
