Overview

The Offline Diagnostics Environment (ODE) is a platform that enables you to troubleshoot a system that is not booted to the operating system. You can use ODE to troubleshoot a system on which you cannot use the Online Diagnostics Tools. ODE is also useful for some types of testing in which it is not desirable to have to boot to the operating system first, as is often the case in manufacturing environment.

The IPF Offline Diagnostics and Utilities CD is a comprehensive offline diagnostic solution. The CD includes a suite of diagnostic tools belonging to the Offline Diagnostics Environment (ODE) plus a collection of other useful diagnostic utilities.

IODIAG FCFUPDATE

• The IODIAG and FCFUPDATE tools now support the following cards:
  • AD221A
  • AD222A
  • AD393A
  • AD386A

ODIAG

• The IODIAG tool now supports the AH303A card.

COPYUTIL

• Enabled Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) support.

DFDUTIL

• Enabled UEFI and Modular Smart Array (MSA) support.

Defect Fixes

IODIAG FCFUPDATE MAPPER PERFVER

• QXCR1000751919
  In low end system firmware, the ACPI device path now uses HPQ and HWP. The program code for the IODIAG, FCFUPDATE, MAPPER, and PERFVER tools is updated to account for this change.

CIODIAG CIODIAG2

• QXCR1000751918
  The output of the 'help' command does not list DIAGINFO in the list of supported commands. This issue is now fixed.

MAPPER

• QXCR1000752396
  The Mapper tool displays all the processors in the IO Map even when it is deconfigured. This issue is now fixed. The Mapper tool now displays only the active processors in the IO Map.
• QXCR1000593574
  The Mapper tool shows duplicate hardware paths for processors when threads are enabled. This issue is now fixed.

ODE

• QXCR1000593493 (JAGag49712)
  In the ODE document, the arguments for the erronly command is incorrectly documented as on|off. This documentation error is now fixed.

TITANDIAG

• QXCR1000747043
  Subtest 041 of section 1 intermittently hangs the system when looping is on. This issue is fixed. Section 1 is modified to disable subtest 41.

Known Problems and Workarounds

CIODIAG2

• If an FTP script is executed on a machine, reboot the machine before running the CIODIAG2 tool. Else, the LAN test generates a Machine Check Abort (MCA)

COPYUTIL

• The COPYUTIL tool does not support the Agilent FC cards.

DFDUTILU

• The DFDUTILU tool supports up to 4096 devices.

ESCADIAG

• The section 3 may fail in a cellular system with 16 cells and fully loaded with 16 PCI-X I/O chassis.

IODIAG

• QXCR1000585287 (JAGag39775), QXCR1000585265 (JAGag39740)
  There are known defects with the EFI driver for the AD299A, AD355A, AD221A, AD222A, and AD393A controllers when attached to peripherals. While running a test using the IODIAG tool, the IODIAG tool prints the debug output in the form of hex dumps. Also, the IODIAG tool encounters intermittent traps and hangs. HP recommends that you test these devices without attaching the controllers. You can obtain the fix for this defect after the release of the EFI drivers for the controllers.
• QXCR1000585447 (JAGag39989)
  Due to an EFI driver issue on the AD338A GigE adapter, the section 2 of the IODIAG tool fails displaying the following error message when the LAN cable is connected to the adapter:

• Due to an EFI driver issue on the AB287A 10GigE adapter, section 2 of the IODIAG tool fails on the following servers:
  
  • rx8640 server
  • rx7640 server
  • SD16B server
  • SD32B server
  • SD64B server

  The AB287A 10GigE adapter is shipped with EFI driver version 1.1.3.0. On rx8640, rx7640, SD16B, SD32B, and SD64B servers, the EFI driver version 1.1.3.0 may cause section 2 of the IODIAG tool to fail. These failures occur while using the IODIAG tool from the following Offline Diagnostics CD media:

  The following error message is displayed:

  The error message does not indicate that the adapter is defective. To verify that the adapter is functional, follow the procedure described in the AB287A PCI-X 10 Gigabit Ethernet Card Installation Guide. Install the HP-UX driver. Use the link loop or the ping command to send packets to a remote system. Note that the failure of an IODIAG tool does not impact the functionality of the adapter. Update the EFI driver on the adapter. You can download the latest EFI Driver from the following Web site:

MAPPER PERFVER DFDUTIL COPYUTIL

• QXCR1000775330
  These programs may hang while scanning for device drivers when the dual port Lumen (AD355A) card is present with Emulex SCSI Pass Thru Driver version 00032113 and is connected to a BD03656ABA disk. This is a driver problem which will be fixed in future releases.
• The following debug messages may be displayed when the XL2 and Emulex devices (AD299A, AD355A, A6795A) are present:
  Passed Version = 0x3, Controller Version = 0x4, or
  Passed Version = 0x4, Controller Version = 0x3, and
  controller is not started. returning EFI_INVALID_PARAMETER

PERFVER

• QXCR1000766330
  The PERFVER tool, when run with other ODE tools in multiple loops, intermittently skips testing a few devices in section 1, in loop 2 or later loops. It does not skip any device in loop 1 and this defect only happens in cellular systems.

PLUTODIAG

• This version assumes that the system has PLUTO 2.0 or later version.
• QXCR1000576887 (JAGag28741)
  The PLUTODIAG tool crashes on systems when LBA is not present. This is an illegal configuration.

REODIAG

• Sections 3, 5.11, and 5.12 does not run if the FTP or the PXE network driver is loaded. This behavior is by design.
• To run Sections 3, 5.11, and 5.12, reboot the cell without starting the FTP or PXE network driver.
• If Sections 3, 5.11 and 5.12 are run, FTP access will not work until the machine is rebooted.
• Sections 3.1 and 3.3 will not run if PXE network driver is loaded. This behavior is by design.
• REODIAG checks for VenMsg(0C8AFAFB-2A49-43AA-A449-5B2FD20AE6C8) when executed from RAMDRIVE. This value must be present for REODIAG to work from RAMDRIVE.
• ACPI must be set to the default configuration before running the REODIAG tool. That is to issue the following EFI command:
  fs0:>acpiconfig default The system must be reset for the change to occur.
